When you consider the various dialects, Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world with over 400 million speakers.

The Arabic language is organized into 5 dialect families:

  • Dialects of Syria, Lebanon and Palestine
  • Dialects of Iraq
  • Dialects of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and western Libya
  • Egyptian Arabic is understood across most of the Arabic-speaking countries due to broad Egyptian influence in the region, including Egyptian cinema and music. These factors help to make it the most widely spoken and by far the most widely studied variety of Arabic.
