Tajiki (tgk)

There are approximately 110 million Persian speakers worldwide, with the language holding official status in Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. The Persian language has three major dialects.
  • Western Persian (Persian, Iranian Persian, or Farsi) is spoken in Iran, and by minorities in Iraq and the Persian Gulf states. It is written in the Arabic script.

  • Dari (Dari Persian, Afghan Persian, or Dari) is spoken in Afghanistan.

  • Tajiki (Tajik Persian) is spoken in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It is written in the Cyrillic script. Article - From Persian to Tajik to Persian
  • Western Persian commonly called Farsi is the most widely spoken. The Academy of Persian Language and Literature has declared that the name Persian is more appropriate. Dari is a dialect spoken in the eastern area and Tajik is spoken in the southern regions. The three are mutually intelligible.

    An informal method of writing Persian in the latin alphabet has developed, commonly called Fingilish.
