Abkhazia is a breakaway region of Georgia, recognized as independent only by Russia and a few other states, while most of the world considers it part of Georgia. Abkhazia has a de facto independent government and is financially dependent on Russia, which has a military presence there. It is located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, with Russia to the north, Georgia to the East, and Turkey to the south.
The number of native speakers is small - estimates range as high as 1 million speakers with enclaves of diaspora around the world. Russian, Turkish, and Georgian are primary languages in Abkhazia.
