Ethiopia is Africa´s oldest independent nation and one of the first Christian nations, having been evangelized by the Ethiopian eunich who was baptized by Phillip as recorded in Acts 8. It is a fertile, mountain plateau surrounded by the drought-prone lowlands and deserts of the Red Sea coast and landlocked since the secession of Eritrea. It is home to 112 People Groups, 31 of whom are considered unreached by the Joshua Project.

Amharic is the primary and official language or Ethiopia, spoken as a first language by 28 million people. Another 2.7 million speakers of Amharic live in Eritrea (ኤርትራ), Canada, the USA and Sweden.
